I can't help feeling, with nothing else to think but snow, snow, and more snow, that the human race is having a bit of a tough time of it at the moment. Infact, since I can only really remember the 2000's (properly at least, don't worry I've not gone senile yet) I remember some pretty awful things have happened.
And I must ask - is the Iraq War a continuation of the Cold War? I'm led to believe it does have links to it.
Well first I can think of nothing but 9/11.
And then there were the London Bombings (how bad is it that, I can't remember the date of that disaster, and it happened in my own country =| )
Then everyone began to be more aware about Global Warming ( I have more to say on this later ).
And now the credit crunch.
I know wars and credit crunches have happened before, but surely Global Warming could have done too? I mean, if we have no proper records, how do we know what the temperature was like, or the weather conditions, before we had that kind of technology? There's no one to remember it anymore. So Global Warming could be a cycle. If you think about it, I'm sure that the dinosaurs lived in a much hotter climate than we did, granted, the geography of the Earth was a lot different, but all in all if they were mostly reptiles, and moved about a lot, they'd need lots of sun...
But then there is evidence that we contribute to global warming anyway. Cutting down rainforests, burning fossil fuels, raising cattle, generally excreting greenhouse gases into the atmosphere... we've had years and years of this, everyone's sick of hearing it, and only really in the last two or three years have people actually begun to think what they could do, and started doing it. "Switch off your lights" Well thats hardly going to help really; it would be more significant if you turned off every appliance in your house at the wall overnight, or until you needed to use it.
Really, I don't think things are going to get better. The small proportion of people who are doing something probably receive funny looks from lazy neighbours across the garden fence in the morning, when said environmental activist begins to fertilize his garden with his own poop (I think this environmentalist is a bit, err, thick).
There are people who've been doing it for years, are pros, and don't seem to be interested in letting the rest of the world know, so basically, their efforts are in vain anyway. Their funeral... or rather, everybody's.
Then there are the rest of us. We don't use lights in the daytime really, we recycle, we do a lot of things to help but not really with any conscious effort. Apart from that, we know it's not going to help. We know, eventually, things are going to get worse.
But I have something else to say. I don't think we should actually be worrying about Global Warming over here yet, it's Global Cooling I'm concerned about. I can't remember the exact scientific reasoning, but apparently eventually sunlight and heat won't be able to penetrate through the thick layer of greenhouse gases ... and we'll slowly start to freeze up.
Also, the Ozone layer is equipped to deal with greenhouse gases isn't it? But we're putting too much out there. I don't know how long it takes the atmosphere to process these buutttt I wish 1 - it would hurry up and 2 - we could all take a break from emitting them.
