Smemories

I think our sense of smell is the most underrated sense we have. We often comment on how soft or other texture something feels, and what something tastes, looks or sounds like. But the smell of something isn't a comment I hear very much.

I like to smell things. I'm not saying it's some strange obsession I have - I like to indulge my senses, and I don't ignore my nose in this. It's been proven that the sense of smell is one of the most powerful senses associated with memories. And I personally can remember many memories when I smell a certain odour. Even if you just sit and try to conjure a smell in your head of a particular perfume or object, I bet you can. The smell of leather? I can 'smell' that in my head. The memory of what it smells like is there, in the same way I can imagine a table in my mind now and see one without seeing it with my eyes. I wonder how many of you have ever done this, remembered smells.

It's actually very relaxing to take the time out to discover how something smells - common examples are the smell of new books, leather as I mentioned, grass, petrol. I personally enjoy the smell of new electronics and new game cases too.
